How it is made

Carbon tetrachloride is reacted with antimony trifluoride in the presence of a small quantity of antimony pentachloride. The reaction produces a mixture of CCl3F and CCl2F2, which is readily separable by fractional distillation.

From carbon tetrachloride and hafnium, in the presence of fluorinating agents such as antimony tri- and penta-fluoride.

Carbon tetrachloride + hydrogen fluoride (Halogen exchange, coproduced with dichlorodifluormethane)
