These terms of use govern your access to and use of CompoundList at compoundlist.com, including the website, supplier and buyer dashboards, messaging, requests for quote and related services (together, the "service"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. If you use the service for a company, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms on its behalf.
1. Who we are and what we do
CompoundList is an online marketplace and directory for chemicals. We publish information about chemical substances, host supplier profiles and product listings, and help buyers and suppliers contact each other and exchange quotes.
We are not a party to any contract between a buyer and a supplier. Unless we expressly say otherwise for a specific service, we do not sell, buy, store, test, ship or take ownership of any product listed on the service, and we do not handle payment for products. Buyers and suppliers are responsible for their own agreements, including specification, price, delivery, inspection, payment and compliance with the law.
Our role as an intermediary. For the information that buyers and suppliers publish, send or store through the service, such as listings, company profiles, requests for quote, quotes, messages and reviews, CompoundList is an intermediary within the meaning of section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and relies on the exemption from liability that section 79 of that Act gives intermediaries. We do not start these transmissions, choose who receives them, or choose or change the information in them, apart from the formatting, screening and moderation these terms describe. We follow the due diligence required by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. We publish these terms, our privacy policy and the details of our grievance officer, we tell users what content they must not host or share, we act on complaints and on lawful orders of courts and government agencies within the times those rules set, and we keep information about removed content and the related records for the period they require. Each user remains responsible for the information they provide and for their own transactions.
2. Accounts and verification
- The service is for business and professional use. You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract.
- You must give accurate information when you register and keep it up to date. One person may not hold several accounts to get around limits or sanctions.
- We verify email addresses with a one time code sent by email. We do not use SMS or phone codes. Supplier verification badges involve further checks described on our verification page.
- You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for everything done through your account. Tell us at support@compoundlist.com straight away if you suspect unauthorised use.
3. Buyers
Buyers can search the service, contact suppliers and post requests for quote free of charge. When you post a request for quote, you agree that we may share its content with suppliers we select. Your name, email address and phone number stay masked until you accept a quote or choose to share them. You must only post genuine requests for products you intend to buy for a lawful purpose.
4. Suppliers and listings
If you list products, you confirm that:
- you are allowed to sell them, hold every licence, registration or permit required, and will comply with the laws of the countries you sell to and from
- each listing is accurate, current and linked to the correct substance, grade and specification
- any price you show is real and greater than zero, and you will honour quotes on the terms stated
- documents you upload, such as certificates of analysis, safety data sheets and certificates, are genuine and belong to the product and site they describe
- you will not put phone numbers, email addresses, website links or other contact details in titles, descriptions or images, and will use the contact features we provide
We may edit the formatting of listings, link them to the correct substance, hide them while we review them, or remove them if they break these terms or our listing rules.
Unclaimed profiles
Some company profiles are listed by CompoundList so that buyers can find suppliers before those companies join. These profiles are labelled "Unclaimed profile", show products as price on request and are never shown as verified or as paying members. An authorised representative can claim a profile through the claim page with an official business email address on the company's own website domain. Our team verifies every claim before it activates the profile and tells the representative the result by email. Claims are not approved instantly, and we may ask for further proof of authority before transferring control. Questions about claims go to suppliers@compoundlist.com.
5. Prohibited and restricted products
You may not list, request or discuss the supply of products that are illegal to sell or buy in the relevant countries, or that are blocked under our controlled substances policy. This includes narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, chemical weapons and their scheduled precursors where prohibited, explosives and items under sanctions or export controls. Restricted chemicals, such as drug precursors and some scheduled chemicals, can only be listed or requested on the conditions in that policy. We may report suspected illegal activity to the authorities. We keep records of refused and held attempts to list, request or ask about restricted chemicals, and we share them with law enforcement agencies when the law requires or allows it.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- send spam, unsolicited bulk messages or misleading requests, or use the service to collect contact details
- impersonate any person or company, or misrepresent your relationship with a company
- post false, misleading or defamatory content, or fake reviews
- scrape, copy or harvest data from the service by automated means without our written permission, or overload or interfere with the service
- try to get around masking of buyer contact details, lead credits, plan limits or security features
- upload malware or content that infringes the rights of others
- use the service for fraud, money laundering, sanctions evasion or any other unlawful purpose
7. Content and licences
Your content. You keep ownership of the content you upload, such as listings, documents, images and messages. You give us a worldwide, non exclusive, royalty free licence to host, copy, display, adapt the format of and distribute that content as needed to run and promote the service. This licence ends when you delete the content, except where it has been shared with other users or we must keep it by law.
Our content. The service, its design, software, databases, editorial content and structure drawings are owned by or licensed to CompoundList. Some data on the service is used under third party licences, listed in section 18. You may use the service for your own business purposes but may not copy substantial parts of it into another product or service.
Feedback. If you send us suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
8. Memberships, credits and other paid services
Supplier memberships are sold for one year at a time. There are no monthly plans. Prices are shown in Indian rupees to customers in India and in US dollars to customers in all other countries. Indian prices exclude GST, which is added at checkout. Memberships do not renew by themselves and we never charge a stored card. While automatic renewal is switched on in your billing page, we email renewal reminders before the end date with a one-click renewal link, and each new term starts when you pay for it. Lead credits, TopRank positions, advertising and audits are sold separately.
Fees are payable in advance and are non refundable except as set out in our refund policy or required by law. We may change prices for future terms with notice by email. If a membership is not renewed by its end date, your plan stays active during a grace period of 7 days, after which the account moves to the Free plan.
9. Reviews and ratings
Only buyers who sent a request for quote on the service, received a quote and marked the order as placed may review that supplier. Reviews must be honest and based on your own experience. Suppliers may reply once to each review. We may remove reviews that break these terms, but we do not remove fair reviews because a supplier pays or asks.
10. Messages and moderation
To protect users, messages and listings are screened automatically for contact details, scams and restricted substances, and may be reviewed by our team when they are flagged or reported. We do not read messages for any other purpose.
11. Sponsored content and third party links
Some positions on the service are paid, such as TopRank positions, featured suppliers and advertising. Paid positions are always labelled. The service may link to third party websites. We are not responsible for their content or practices.
12. Disclaimers
The service, including chemical data, safety summaries, trade data, suggested HS codes and supplier information, is provided for general information and may contain errors or be out of date. Safety summaries are not safety data sheets. Nothing on the service is legal, regulatory, medical or professional advice. A verification badge shows only what we checked and when, and is not a guarantee of a supplier's products, conduct or solvency. Please read our full disclaimer.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent allowed by law, CompoundList is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, or for any loss arising from a transaction between users. Our total liability to you for all claims relating to the service in any twelve month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud.
14. Indemnity
You agree to compensate CompoundList for claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your content, your products, your transactions with other users or your breach of these terms or of the law.
15. Suspension and termination
You may close your account at any time from your settings or by writing to support@compoundlist.com. We may suspend or close an account, remove content or withhold features if we reasonably believe you have broken these terms or the law, or to protect other users. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we will tell you why. Paid fees are not refunded when an account is closed for a breach of these terms.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date and, for material changes, tell registered users by email before the changes take effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue. Subject to any mandatory consumer protection rules that apply to you, the courts at the place of our registered office in India have exclusive jurisdiction.
18. Third-party data licences
Parts of the data on the service are used under licences that ask for this credit. A credit does not mean that the licensor endorses CompoundList.
