About pharmaceuticals
Medicines are made from three kinds of chemical inputs. Active pharmaceutical ingredients produce the therapeutic effect, excipients turn them into tablets, capsules, injections, creams and inhalers, and intermediates and reagents are used to make the APIs in the first place. This industry page groups chemicals by their role in that chain, with therapeutic classes for APIs such as analgesics, antibacterials, antivirals, antidiabetics, antineoplastics and central nervous system agents, plus vitamins, excipients and intermediates.

The pharmaceutical supply chain is global and heavily regulated. A large share of generic APIs and intermediates is produced in India and China, while many innovative APIs, peptides and biologics are made in Europe, the US and Japan. Buyers must qualify every supplier and site, check good manufacturing practice status, and make sure that the documents they need for registration are available, such as a drug master file, a certificate of suitability or a local equivalent.
Use the function pages to find substances by therapeutic class or role, then open a substance page for identifiers, pharmacopoeia references, safety data and the suppliers that list it. When you post a request for quote, state the intended use (research, development or commercial), the grade and monograph, documents required, batch size and any special specifications such as particle size or polymorph. Controlled substances and drug precursors can only be traded between licensed parties, and CompoundList reviews such requests under its controlled substances policy. Information on CompoundList is for sourcing and is not medical advice.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about sourcing pharmaceuticals chemicals on CompoundList.
How are pharmaceutical substances grouped here?
By function. APIs are grouped by therapeutic class using established pharmacological actions and roles, and other pages cover vitamins, excipients and intermediates. One substance can belong to several classes.
Can I find GMP suppliers with regulatory documents?
Suppliers list their grades and documents on their offers. Filter for verified suppliers, then ask in your request for GMP certificates, drug master file or CEP status and recent audit history.
Does CompoundList check controlled substances?
Yes. Narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and listed precursors can only be traded between licensed parties, and such listings and requests are reviewed under our controlled substances policy.
Is the information on substance pages medical advice?
No. Pharmacology and safety data on CompoundList are provided to support sourcing. They are not medical advice or a safety data sheet.
