About inorganic chemicals
Inorganic chemicals are the mineral acids, alkalis, salts, oxides, metals and gases that sit at the base of almost every industrial value chain. Sulfuric acid, caustic soda, soda ash, chlorine, ammonia, phosphoric acid and titanium dioxide are produced in very large volumes, while thousands of smaller salts and oxides serve water treatment, glass, ceramics, batteries, electronics, agriculture, food and pharmaceuticals.

CompoundList groups inorganic substances by their anion or element, the same logic that chapter 28 of the Harmonized System follows. Acids, hydroxides, halides, sulfates, nitrates, phosphates, carbonates, oxides, elements, rare earth compounds, industrial gases and other salts each have their own page, with HS codes and trade data linked from every substance.
For inorganic chemicals the grade often matters more than the molecule. The same salt can be sold as technical, fertilizer, feed, food, pharmaceutical, reagent, battery or electronic grade, and the price and documents differ for each. State the assay, the form (flakes, pearls, powder, granules, solution and its concentration), heavy metal and chloride limits, particle size and packaging in your request. Hydrated and anhydrous forms have different CAS numbers and active contents, so confirm which one you need. Ask for a certificate of analysis and a safety data sheet, and check transport rules, since many acids, alkalis and oxidisers are dangerous goods.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about buying inorganic chemicals on CompoundList.
Why do grades matter so much for inorganic chemicals?
The same salt is made to different purity levels for different markets. Technical, fertilizer, feed, food, pharmaceutical, reagent, battery and electronic grades differ in impurity limits, documents and price, so always state the grade and the impurity limits you need.
Does the hydrate form change the product?
Yes. Anhydrous and hydrated salts, for example copper sulfate and copper sulfate pentahydrate, have different CAS numbers, active contents and handling properties. Quote and compare prices on the same basis, such as per kilogram of active metal.
How are inorganic chemicals classified for customs?
Most fall under chapter 28 of the Harmonized System, organised by element and anion. Fertilizer grades of nitrates, phosphates and potassium salts usually move to chapter 31, and some minerals such as salt and natural carbonates to chapter 25.
Are inorganic acids and alkalis dangerous goods?
Most concentrated acids and alkalis are classified as corrosive for transport, and oxidisers such as nitrates, chlorates and peroxides have their own classes. Suppliers must provide a safety data sheet and pack them in approved containers.
