About water treatment
Water treatment chemicals keep drinking water safe, protect industrial equipment and clean waste water before discharge or reuse. This page groups them by function, covering coagulants, flocculants, disinfectants, scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, pH adjusters, oxygen scavengers and ion exchange resins and adsorbents.

Different systems need different programmes. Municipal drinking water plants coagulate, filter and disinfect, and often dose corrosion control chemicals to protect distribution pipes. Cooling towers need scale and corrosion inhibitors and biocides, boilers need oxygen scavengers, internal treatment and condensate protection, and reverse osmosis plants need antiscalants, cleaning chemicals and dechlorination. Waste water plants use coagulants and polymers to remove solids and phosphorus and to dewater sludge.
Drinking water chemicals must meet strict purity standards. In North America this usually means certification to NSF/ANSI/CAN 60, while Europe uses EN standards and national lists of approved products. Industrial programmes are often supplied by specialist service companies together with dosing equipment, monitoring and reporting. Regulatory topics include biocide approval, discharge limits for phosphorus, zinc and other metals, and emerging contaminants such as PFAS that need advanced treatment with activated carbon, ion exchange or membranes. When you post a request, describe the water source and analysis, the system and the problem, together with the product and dosage you use today. Suppliers can then propose a treatment, run jar tests or trials, and quote bulk or packaged supply.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about sourcing water treatment chemicals on CompoundList.
Do drinking water chemicals need certification?
Usually yes. North America relies on NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 certification, and Europe and other regions use EN standards or national approval lists. Ask for certificates that cover the exact product and plant.
Can suppliers provide dosing equipment and service?
Many water treatment companies supply chemicals with dosing pumps, monitoring and service visits. State in your request whether you need a full programme or chemicals only.
How do I compare coagulant offers?
Compare active content, such as aluminium oxide or iron percentage, and run jar tests with your own water to find the most effective dose and cost.
Which chemicals help remove PFAS from water?
PFAS are usually removed with granular activated carbon, specialty ion exchange resins or high-pressure membranes. Suppliers of these media can propose options based on your water analysis.
