What is Finerenone?

Plain description, key identifiers and synonyms

Finerenone is an orally bioavailable non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA), with anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory activities. Upon oral administration, finerenone targets and binds to the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), and inhibits MR-mediated sodium reabsorption and overactivation in both epithelial and nonepithelial tissues. This reduces fibrosis and inflammation that result from MR overactivation.

Finerenone is a nonsteroidal antimineralocorticoid that is in phase III clinical trials for the treatment of chronic heart failure as of October 2015.
