Pharmacology

Calcium Phosphate is the calcium salt of phosphoric acid with widely used applications. This agent can be used as a countermeasure for exposure to strontium and radium radionuclides. Upon oral uptake, calcium phosphate competes for and blocks the absorption of radium (Ra-226) and strontium (Sr-90) in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

How it is made

High temperature reaction of phosphate rock, silica, wet-process phosphoric acid, & soda ash (feed-grade), reaction of furnace phosphoric acid & calcium oxide or calcium nitrate (food-grade)

(Animal) bones are calcined until white, then ground & digested with hydrochloric acid (or sulfuric acid)... After filtration, solution is treated either with ammonia or more generally with calcium hydroxide whereby calcium phosphate is ppt. (Tribasic calcium phosphate NF)

By interaction of solutions of calcium chloride & sodium triphosphate with excess of ammonia.
