Pharmacology
Fenamiphos is a synthetic phosphoramidate ester compound and organophosphate acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and neurotoxicant that is used as a pesticide. It is characterized as a highly toxic colorless or brown waxy solid, and exposure occurs by inhalation, ingestion, or contact.
How it is made
React 4-methylthio-m-cresol with ethylisopropylamidophosphorochloride.
Fenamiphos is prepared by condensing 4-methylthio-m-cresol with O-ethyl N-isopropyl phosphoramidochloride, or with ethyl dichlorophosphate followed by reaction with isopropylamine.
3-Methyl-4-(methylmercapto)phenol + phosphorus oxychloride + ethanol + isopropylamine (dehydrochlorination/dehydrochlorination/dehydrochlorination)
