Uses and applications
What the substance is used for, by industry and function
Maltitol is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry in the formulation of oral dosage forms. It is a noncariogenic bulk sweetener, approximately as sweet as sucrose, well adapted as a diluent for different oral dosage forms, wet granulation, and sugar-free hard coating.
The applications of maltitol correspond largely to those of sugar. However, its hygroscopicity and capacity for browning or flavor development differ. Maltitol can be used in the production of chocolates, hard and soft caramel, toffees, gummy bears, chewing gum, jams, ice cream, etc.
Use classes: Food additives, Cosmetics.
