Functional uses

  • Flavouring and nutrient
  • Fragrance

How it is made

Prepd by polymerization of acetaldehyde catalyzed by hcl & h2so4 at medium to high temp. Catalyzed by mixture of h2so4 & h3po4.

By treating acetaldehyde with small quantities of sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, carbonyl chloride, or zinc chloride, almost complete conversion occurs, & by freezing liq & then distilling crystallized material, if necessary, pure paraldehyde is produced.
