About heterocyclic building blocks
Heterocyclic building blocks are ring compounds containing nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur that carry functional groups ready for further chemistry. The group covers substituted pyridines, pyrimidines, pyrazines and pyridazines, azoles such as pyrazoles, imidazoles, triazoles, oxazoles and thiazoles, indoles, indazoles, benzimidazoles and quinolines, saturated rings such as piperidines, piperazines, morpholines, pyrrolidines, azetidines and oxetanes, and spirocyclic and bridged scaffolds.

Most marketed drugs contain at least one heterocycle, so medicinal chemists buy these building blocks constantly. Halogenated heterocycles serve as partners in cross-coupling, amino and carboxylic acid heterocycles join molecules by amide bonds, and saturated heterocycles add three-dimensional shape and improve solubility.
Ask for purity by NMR and LC-MS, regioisomeric purity, salt form (many amines are supplied as hydrochlorides), water content and storage conditions. Boc-protected amines are common for stability. For scale-up, check the route, because cheap routes may leave regioisomers that are hard to remove later. Heterocyclic compounds fall under HS headings 2932 to 2934.
