Uses and applications
What the substance is used for, by industry and function
At one time, chlorophenol-treatment was widely used in agriculture, to prevent wood decay in buildings, food containers, and horticultural timbers. Recently, such chlorophenol applications have been considerably restricted in some countries, and as a result, the quantities of non-PCP chlorophenols used in agriculture are minor. (chlorophenols).
Biocide, disinfectant for home, hospital, and farm (Former).
Organic synthesis (dyes).
How it is made
From diazotized o-chloroaniline, from phenol, cis-trans equilibria in o-halophenols.
O-Chlorocumenes are oxidized to peroxides and then hydrated to produce o-chlorophenol.
O-Chlorophenol is produced in 22% yields from the reaction of chlorine monoxide with phenol in carbon tetrachloride.
