Lab and analysis
COA (certificate of analysis)
Definition
A batch specific quality document listing the tests performed, the specification limits and the actual results.
A certificate of analysis should identify the product, grade, CAS number, batch number, manufacturing and expiry or retest dates, the specification and method for each test, the actual result, a conclusion and the signature of the person who released it.
A COA is not the same as a specification sheet. Results that are identical across batches, results written only as complies with no numbers, or a batch number that does not match the label are warning signs.
