Trade and customs
ITC(HS) code
Definition
India's eight digit version of the HS code, used in import and export policy and customs declarations.
ITC(HS) stands for Indian Trade Clarification based on the Harmonized System. The first six digits follow the international HS and the last two are national. The DGFT publishes the ITC(HS) schedules, which state for each code whether imports or exports are free, restricted (licence needed) or prohibited, and any conditions.
The customs tariff published by CBIC uses the same eight digit codes for duty rates.
