Packing group
Definition
The degree of danger of a dangerous good in transport: I high, II medium, III low.
Packing groups apply to most classes and decide the strength of packaging required. UN packaging is marked X for packing groups I to III, Y for II and III, and Z for III only.
For flammable liquids, packing group I covers liquids with an initial boiling point of 35 °C or below, II covers flash points below 23 °C with a higher boiling point, and III covers flash points from 23 °C to 60 °C. Classes 1, 2 and 7 do not use packing groups.
