About soaps and metal soaps
Soaps are the sodium and potassium salts of fatty acids, the oldest surfactants. This group covers soap noodles and base for toilet and laundry bars, potassium soaps for liquid soaps, and fatty acids used to make soap. It also includes metal soaps such as calcium, zinc, magnesium, aluminium and lithium stearates, which are not used for cleaning but as lubricants, release agents, stabilisers, thickeners and water repellents.

Soap noodles are made from palm, palm kernel, coconut and tallow fatty acids, often in ratios such as 80 to 20 vegetable oil to lauric oil, which control lather, hardness and cost. Metal stearates go into PVC stabilisation, plastics processing, rubber, powder metallurgy, cosmetics, pharmaceutical tablet lubrication, greases and construction products.
Ask soap noodle suppliers for total fatty matter, moisture, free alkali, free fatty acid, iodine value, colour and the oil blend. For metal stearates, ask for metal content, free fatty acid, melting point, particle size and the grade (technical, food, pharmaceutical or cosmetic). Palm-based products are commonly requested with RSPO certification. Soaps fall under HS heading 3401, and metal stearates under 2915 or 3824 depending on form.
