About nonionic surfactants
Nonionic surfactants carry no charge, which makes them tolerant of hard water and compatible with other surfactant types. The group includes fatty alcohol ethoxylates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide block copolymers, alkyl polyglucosides, fatty acid alkanolamides, sorbitan esters and polysorbates, ethoxylated fatty acids and amines, and amine oxides, which behave as nonionics or cationics depending on pH.

They clean oily soils well and give low to moderate foam, so they are used in laundry and dishwashing products, hard surface and industrial cleaners, textile processing, agrochemical emulsifiers, paints, emulsion polymerisation, cosmetics and food. Alkyl polyglucosides are made from sugars and fatty alcohols and are popular in natural and ecolabel products.
Choose a nonionic by its carbon chain, degree of ethoxylation and HLB value, which together decide solubility, cloud point and wetting or emulsifying behaviour. Ask for active matter, cloud point, hydroxyl value, pH, free polyethylene glycol and residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane. Alkylphenol ethoxylates, especially nonylphenol ethoxylates, are restricted in many markets, so check your rules. Nonionic surfactants fall under HS subheading 3402.42.
