How it is made

Glutethimide is prepared by the addition of 2-phenylbutyronitrile to acrylic ester to give 2-ethyl-2-phenylpentane-1,5-dicarboxylic acid mononitrile, followed by cyclization with sulfuric acid and acetic acid.
