Battery and energy storage materials make up lithium-ion and other rechargeable cells. The group covers lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide, cathode materials such as lithium iron phosphate, NMC and NCA layered oxides and lithium cobalt oxide, cathode precursors such as nickel, cobalt and manganese sulfates, anode materials such as natural and synthetic graphite, silicon and lithium titanate, electrolyte salts such as lithium hexafluorophosphate and LiFSI, electrolyte solvents such as ethylene carbonate, dimethyl carbonate and ethyl methyl carbonate, additives such as vinylene carbonate and fluoroethylene carbonate, binders such as PVDF and CMC, and conductive carbons.

Battery grade materials have tight limits on moisture and on metallic impurities such as iron, copper, zinc and sodium, because these can cause self-discharge or short circuits. Electrolytes are made and packed in dry rooms, and their water and hydrofluoric acid content are measured in parts per million.
Ask for the battery grade specification, impurity limits, particle size distribution and surface area for active materials, moisture, and electrochemical test data. Traceability of critical minerals, carbon footprint and rules such as the EU Battery Regulation now affect supplier choice. Lithium hexafluorophosphate reacts with moisture to form hydrogen fluoride, so packaging and handling must keep it dry.
