Halal certification

Definition

Certification by a recognised body that an ingredient and its production meet Islamic dietary requirements.

Halal certificates are issued by certification bodies, and many importing countries accept only bodies they recognise. They are common for food ingredients, gelatin, glycerin, emulsifiers, flavours and cosmetic raw materials, where animal origin or alcohol use matters.

Check the certificate holder, the products and sites covered, the expiry date and whether the certifying body is accepted in your market.
