Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC)
Definition
The international treaty banning chemical weapons, which controls listed toxic chemicals and precursors in three schedules.
The Chemical Weapons Convention entered into force in 1997 and is implemented by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Schedule 1 chemicals have few or no peaceful uses. Schedule 2 and 3 chemicals have legitimate industrial uses but are declared and controlled, with trade restrictions for non member states.
Each member state has a national authority. CompoundList blocks Schedule 1 chemicals and restricts listings and requests for Schedule 2 and 3 chemicals.
