Grades and purity
IP grade (Indian Pharmacopoeia)
Definition
Material that meets the monograph of the Indian Pharmacopoeia, the legal drug standard in India.
The Indian Pharmacopoeia is published by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is the official book of standards for drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
IP grade is required for medicines made and sold in India. Many Indian manufacturers offer dual grades such as IP and BP, or IP, BP and USP, when the monographs are close enough to test against all of them.
