Grades and purity
JP grade (Japanese Pharmacopoeia)
Definition
Material that meets the monograph of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, the official drug standard in Japan.
The Japanese Pharmacopoeia is issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Suppliers to Japanese drug makers are usually asked for JP grade material, and often for additional documents in Japanese.
The Japanese, European and US pharmacopoeias harmonise selected monographs and general chapters through the Pharmacopoeial Discussion Group, but many differences remain, so check each monograph.
