Cosmetic grade

Definition

Ingredient quality suited to personal care products, usually supplied with an INCI name and limits on impurities.

There is no single international cosmetic grade standard. In practice, cosmetic grade means the ingredient has an INCI name, meets limits on heavy metals, microbiology and other impurities that brand owners and regulators expect, and comes with documents such as an SDS, a certificate of analysis and statements on allergens or restricted substances.

In the EU the ingredient must comply with the Cosmetics Regulation and its annexes, which you can check in CosIng.
