GHS and safety
MSDS (material safety data sheet)
Definition
The older name for a safety data sheet, still widely used in trade.
MSDS stands for material safety data sheet. Before the GHS, formats varied between countries and suppliers. The GHS introduced the 16 section safety data sheet, and most regulations now use the term SDS.
Many buyers and suppliers still say MSDS. When you receive one, check that it follows the 16 section GHS format and that it is recent. An old MSDS may use outdated classifications.
