SVHC (substance of very high concern)

Definition

A substance identified under REACH as having serious hazards, placed on the ECHA candidate list.

Substances of very high concern include CMR substances, persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) or very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB) substances, and others of equivalent concern such as some endocrine disruptors. ECHA publishes them on the candidate list, which is updated regularly.

If an article contains a candidate list substance above 0.1 percent by weight, suppliers must give recipients enough information for safe use and, on request, inform consumers. Some SVHCs are later moved to Annex XIV and then need authorisation for use.
