REACH
Definition
The EU regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006.
REACH requires manufacturers and importers to register substances they place on the EU and EEA market in quantities of one tonne or more per year per legal entity. The data required grows with the tonnage band. The principle is often summarised as no data, no market.
REACH also covers evaluation by authorities, authorisation for substances of very high concern listed in Annex XIV, and restrictions listed in Annex XVII. Non EU manufacturers cannot register directly and either rely on their EU importers or appoint an only representative. The UK runs a separate UK REACH system.
