About oxidizing and reducing agents
Industrial oxidising and reducing agents drive key steps in chemical, pharmaceutical, mining, textile and water treatment processes. Oxidisers include potassium permanganate, sodium and potassium dichromate, sodium chlorate, sodium chlorite, persulfates, sodium periodate, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, sodium hypochlorite and nitric acid. Reducing agents include sodium borohydride, lithium aluminium hydride, sodium dithionite (hydrosulfite), sodium bisulfite, hydrazine hydrate, sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, hydroxylamine salts, thiourea dioxide and metals such as zinc dust and iron powder.

Sodium dithionite reduces vat and sulfur dyes and bleaches pulp and kaolin, sodium borohydride serves pharmaceutical reductions and pulp brightening, sodium chlorate makes chlorine dioxide for pulp bleaching, and permanganate oxidises organic impurities in water and chemical processes.
These products are reactive and often hazardous. Strong oxidisers must be kept away from organic materials and reducing agents, and hydrides react with water to release hydrogen. Dichromates require authorisation for most uses in the EU, and hydrazine is a substance of very high concern. Ask for assay, stability, particle size, packaging and the transport classification.
