About analytical reagents

Analytical reagents are the chemicals used to measure other chemicals. The group covers titration reagents and volumetric standard solutions such as hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, silver nitrate, EDTA and potassium permanganate solutions, primary standards such as potassium hydrogen phthalate and sodium carbonate, Karl Fischer reagents for water determination, complexing and precipitating agents, derivatisation agents, and high purity acids for trace metal analysis.

Ask for the grade (ACS, AR, pharmacopoeia or trace metal grade), assay, impurity limits, lot-specific certificate of analysis and, for standard solutions, the concentration, uncertainty, traceability and shelf life. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and ISO 17034 for reference material production gives additional confidence. Check storage conditions, since some reagents absorb water or carbon dioxide.
