About fertilizers and micronutrients
Fertilizers supply the nutrients plants need. This group includes nitrogen fertilizers such as urea, ammonium nitrate, calcium ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate, phosphate fertilizers such as monoammonium and diammonium phosphate and triple superphosphate, potash fertilizers such as potassium chloride and potassium sulfate, compound NPK grades, secondary nutrients such as calcium, magnesium and sulfur, and micronutrients such as zinc, iron, manganese, copper, boron and molybdenum, including chelated forms.

Bulk fertilizers trade as commodities in vessel and container loads, with prices linked to international benchmarks. Water-soluble fertilizers for fertigation and foliar sprays, such as potassium nitrate, monopotassium phosphate, calcium nitrate and EDTA or EDDHA chelates, are specialty products with tighter specifications on solubility and insolubles.
Key specifications are nutrient content stated as N, P2O5, K2O and element percentages, moisture, granule size and hardness, biuret for urea, heavy metal limits such as cadmium, and the chelated fraction for chelates. Ammonium nitrate is a security sensitive product in many countries. Most fertilizers fall under HS chapter 31, while pure micronutrient salts may be classified in chapter 28.
