Glycosides and other natural products

Natural products inspire many drugs and are used as APIs, research tools, cosmetic actives, food ingredients and analytical standards. Supply ranges from bulk extracts measured in tonnes to pure reference compounds sold by the milligram.

Ask whether the product is a pure compound or a standardised extract, the purity or marker content by HPLC, the source organism and plant part, the extraction method and solvents, residual solvents, pesticides, heavy metals and microbial limits. Some natural products come from protected species covered by CITES, which requires permits for trade, and access and benefit sharing rules under the Nagoya Protocol may apply to genetic resources. Glycosides fall under HS heading 2938.
